Whether you enjoy taking the dog for a walk or taking companies public. Shopping for shoes or designing them — life’s everyday experiences are priceless and deserve a moment of reflection, even celebration. And, we’ve got just the thing for that celebration: Big Hand Wines, crafted from grapes grown in the much-applauded Horse Heaven Hills and Columbia Valley AVA’s of Eastern Washington.
This region offers near-perfect growing conditions for wine grapes, including over 300 days of sunshine each year. From our fruity reds to our crisp Chardonnay, Big Hand reflects the balance Eastern Washington wines are known for: equal parts ripe fruit and elegant structure.
So, let's raise a glass of Big Hand and pay homage to the good things in life: whoever, whenever, wherever.
IT'S NOT DIRT, IT'S MAGIC
The Columbia Valley is home to the most storied AVA’s in Washington state, including Red Mountain and Horse Heaven Hills. Predominantly south-facing, Washington’s largest viticultural region couples warm sun and great drainage, thanks to the Columbia River, to produce wines that are fruit-forward, yet retain some of the structure of European wines.
Approximately 16,000 acres, Horse Heaven Hills is the home of Washington's best wines — some rated 100 points. Great gusts of wind arriving out of the Columbia Gorge, cool this warm southeastern Washington AVA. The wide prairies offer broad expanses of silty terrain and clear-blue skies, the perfect recipe for delicious, approachable wines and a place once described as “heaven for horses."
Behind every A+ report card, successful DIY remodel, or Little League victory — almost anything you can think of — there is usually an un-sung hero that deserves an extra nod or pat on the back.
So, while our number one priority is creating wines that remind us all to stop and celebrate the big "little moments" in life, we’d also like to raise a glass to a couple of guys that just happen to pour their heart, soul, and extensive knowledge of viticulture into the making of Big Hand wine.
Meet Gianfranco Farimbella, Vineyard Manager, and Joshua Maloney, Consulting Winemaker — two key members of our team who, every single day, bring passion, curiosity and energy to making sure your first sip of Big Hand will get the good times rolling and lead to many more.
Gianfranco developed his expertise among the vines of Lombardy, Tuscany and Sardinia and is the maestro of helping grapes reach their ultimate potential. Joshua, following his training at Cornell University, cut his teeth at small wineries and today expertly guides our grapes on their journey from vine to bottle.
So here's a big hand to our un-sung heroes.
